Who is MLANDA?
GITAFRIKA BAND is a captivating music ensemble led by the talented guitarist and singer James Mlanda, originally from Tunduru District in the Ruvuma Region of Tanzania. Born into the Ngoni and Yao cultural heritage, Mlanda was deeply influenced by his father’s musical legacy — inspiring him to preserve and celebrate African traditions through music.
As ambassadors of Tanzania’s musical heritage, GITAFRIKA BAND has performed at renowned stages including Bagamoyo Festival, Jamafest 2017 in Kampala, Nafasi Art Space, The Beat Festival, Poa Poa Restaurant, and many other official cultural events.
Driven by Mlanda’s soulful vocals, masterful guitar playing, and passion for African music, the band takes audiences on a melodious journey where tradition meets the present in a celebration of culture without borders.
