Film Screening: The Empty Grave 🎬

@kijiweniproductions , The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Dar es Salaam, and @goethetanzania warmly invite you to a powerful film screening of THE EMPTY GRAVE.

đź—“ Date: Thursday, 3rd April
⏰ Time: 6:30 PM
đź“Ť Location: Goethe-Institut, Dar es Salaam

THE EMPTY GRAVE is a Tanzanian German co-production that follows the emotional journey of two Tanzanian families searching for their stolen ancestors’ remains. Their quest leads them to Germany, where tens of thousands of skulls and bones from former German colonies are stored in museums—a haunting legacy of colonial plunder.

The film explores the enduring impacts of colonial crimes on families and communities, navigating the complex bureaucracy of both German and Tanzanian institutions in the struggle for restitution.

Directed by Agnes Lisa Wegner and Cece Mlay, the film had its world premiere at the 2024 Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) and ignited important global conversations on colonial guilt and restitution.
