JUMATANO GROOVE: Wamwiduka Band (TZ) 🎶@wamwiduka
Wamwiduka Band, winners of the 2023/24 HAPA (Hollywood Africa Prestigious Awards) for Best Traditional Band, is a vibrant Tanzanian group blending traditional and urban music. Formed in Mbeya in 2012, the band draws its name from the Safwa community, meaning “valuable products.” They play “Babatone” music, popular across East Africa, using homemade instruments like self-made string guitars, marimbas, and banjo-like bass guitars. Their notable works include the “Wamwiduka Mixtape” and their debut EP Mdundo wa Wamwiduka, featuring collaborations with artists such as Ben Pol, Tamimu, and legendary singer Dokii.
