JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T SEE
An exhibition by Alex Gastone Mkwizu (TZ)

Step into a thought-provoking exploration of what lies beneath the surface — where technology meets environmental awareness.

With a practice rooted in lived experience and innovation, Alex Mkwizu works across new media, Artificial Intelligence, and Extended Reality (XR) to expand the possibilities of storytelling. As co-founder of immersive-first studio SeedeXR, his work explores how technology can deepen human connection and awareness.

This exhibition turns its gaze beneath the surface of the Indian Ocean, revealing the urgent realities of climate change and the destruction of fragile marine ecosystems. From coral bleaching and broken reefs to the loss of young fish and threatened livelihoods, it asks audiences to consider what often remains unseen — yet deeply affects us all.

The ocean sustains communities through food, eco-tourism, biodiversity, and even the oxygen we breathe. Through this powerful body of work, Alex invites the Tanzanian community to reflect on our relationship with the sea, and on those most impacted by its decline — including generations of Swahili fishermen.

A powerful reflection on environment, visibility, and responsibility.
