Sugar & Salt” A Solo Exhibition by Kool Koor (US) Exploring Life’s Contrasts
Sugar & Salt is a solo exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist Kool Koor. A pioneer of New York City’s graffiti movement, Kool Koor, also known as Charles Hargrove, has evolved from painting subway walls to exhibiting in renowned institutions like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Groninger Museum. His work explores layered urban realities through a unique visual language he calls Futuristic Symbolism, combining architecture-inspired forms with cosmic abstraction.
In Sugar & Salt, Kool Koor reflects on the contrasting forces of life such as joy and pain, sweetness and struggle, light and darkness. Using locally sourced spices and natural pigments mixed into acrylics, his latest pieces are both tactile and symbolic, inviting viewers to engage with art on multiple sensory levels. The result is a compelling body of work that connects Dar es Salaam’s textures and spirit to a broader, universal narrative. Rich with color, texture, and metaphor, Sugar & Salt offers a thought-provoking experience that speaks to balance, resilience, and the shared human journey.
