UBUNTU EXHIBITION
November 27 @ 6:30 pm - December 21 @ 6:30 pm
FreeUBUNTU – An exhibition by Kukua @kukua_tanzania & Womencraft @womencraft
This exhibit delves into Ubuntu—a philosophy of shared humanity—through the collaborative efforts of Womencraft and Kukua, whose artisans channel tradition into contemporary design. Womencraft, born from the resilience of refugee women and hosting communities, and Kukua, rooted in a French designer’s 30-year journey, converge to reimagine Tanzanian furnishings through sustainable, locally sourced materials.
Each installation embodies Ubuntu’s core: interconnectedness and mutual support. The Kizimkazi series presents a continuous, sweeping sofa, a metaphor for the unbroken connections within a community. The Pemba installation, with a Queen armchair surrounded by Maasai chairs, evokes tribal solidarity, centering a shared identity. In the heart of the exhibit, WomenCraft’s chairs and lighting form a circular constellation, each piece resonating with the strength of unity and resilience. Here, craftsmanship transcends function, inviting viewers to witness how art becomes a vessel for community, cohesion, and the spirit of belonging.
