Are you a performer in Dar es Salaam ready to elevate your craft? Join us for the 3rd edition of WONDAR LABS, a unique platform to create groundbreaking performances for the nightlife scene, from the 15th of July to the 31st of July 2024.

Part of the larger WONDARLAND project, WONDAR LABS aims to spark conversations and experiences around personal transformation and social change through dance and the performing arts.

Guided by the talented facilitators Koleka Putuma and Wanjiru Kamuyu, participants will delve into narratives and choreographic tools to craft thought-provoking, multidisciplinary performances.

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to be part of WONDAR LABS!

WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Workshop 1 with Koleka Putuma: Stories belong where?
Workshop description: The workshop will explore narrative creation, consumption, and ideation. Participants will spend several days creating performances for nightlife venues (bars and clubs), considering how to artistically occupy these spaces with thought-provoking performances. We will transform and share narratives using found and sourced materials, objects, sounds, and text in a series of exercises. Instead of arriving at a polished product, the workshop will develop a mosaic of ideas. These collages will serve as a resource for future work.

Dates: 15 July 2024 – 19 July 2024
Times: 10:00AM – 5:00PM
Location: ASEDEVA

Independent Research:
Dates: 22 July – 23 July 2024

Workshop 2 with Wanjiru Kamuyu: A choreography workshop
Workshop description: A Choreography Workshop, which will focus on having fun while interrogating and exploring the theme of site-specific dance making. The daily learning to trust one’s creative instincts, take risks, step into uncomfortable territory and develop a keen awareness and sensitivity of self and space while crafting a solo are at the core foundation of the workshop experience. The exploration of personal and/or collective stories will serve as source material in creating short solo works. Through guided games and exercises derived from different artistic modalities such as theatre, visual art, writing, song and music will serve as stimuli in the construction of the participant’s choreography. Participants will have the opportunity to explore their individual voices not only as artists, but also as critical thinkers, problem solvers, and leaders.
