DESCRIPTION:JUMATANO GROOVE – The Kilimanjaro Band (TZ) 🎤🎶 \nThe Kilimanjaro Band\, also known as Wana Njenje\, was established in 1973 in Tanga and was initially called Love Burgers. In 1975\, the name was changed to Revolution Band. Later\, in 1989\, the name was changed again to The Kilimanjaro Band. That same year\, they recorded their first album\, titled Kata Kata. This album featured the popular song “Njenje\,” which gained so much fame that the band became widely known as Wana Njenje. In 1997\, the band recorded their second album\, Maua. In 2000\, they recorded their third album\, Kinyaunyau. DESCRIPTION:[PANEL DISCUSSION] 💬 Panel discussion on “Contemporary Dance in Tanzania” organized by @af_dar in collaboration with @asedeva_tanzania \nAGENDA ZETU is a series of panel discussion with different topics in each panel Discussion aiming to explore and have discussion on freedom of expression\, health\, culture\, social\, economics\, politics and gender dynamics to the erosion of mainstream media and top debaters to be included in this AGENDA ZETU DEBATE to guide us/audience through Tanzanian social ways. \nPanelists: \nDorine Mugisha is an artist\, choreographer\, and teacher interested in themes of identity\, belonging\, and confidence through movement. Of Tanzanian heritage\, born in France and living between the UK and Tanzania\, this influences her work and she speaks four languages. She grew up training in hip-hop and street styles\, later embracing Whacking/Punking\, a dance style emphasizing storytelling\, posing\, and sharp movements. \nMatthieu Nieto is a multidisciplinary artist using the performing arts to foster social change\, challenge cultural narratives\, and inspire self-transformation. He holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts (2017) and a Bachelor’s in Dance (2015) from Paris 8 University. He is the artistic director of Movements Migrateurs\, a Toulouse-based organization that has produced his work since 2013\, and the Wondarland Project\, a dance and performance initiative in Dar es Salaam. \nAloyce Makonde is a Tanzanian choreographer and dance/Actor\, he is a founder of Visa 2 Dance a first contemporary dance festival in Tanzania 2007 to 2012\, he is a graduate of the Bagamoyo College of Arts (TASUBA) where he received a diploma in performing arts 1997. DESCRIPTION:CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR ARTISTIC PRODUCTIONS \nWomen*s rights: a tapestry of perspectives \n The project ‘African Feminisms – Rights\, Representation Resources’ invites African artists\, collectives and creative practitioners to propose creative projects that can be displayed in digital formats on the project’s website (House of African Feminisms) and during one of the African Feminisms symposia that will take place in 2025. \nThe project ‘African Feminisms – Rights\, Representation\, Resources’ aims to explore African feminisms practically and discursively\, to promote feminist practice through capacity-building programmes and new perspectives through artistic work. The project sees feminisms not only as a conscious intellectual and activist movement\, but as the daily lived experience of women*. \nThe project has at its core the triad of “Rights\, Representation and Resources” formulated in the guidelines of feminist foreign policy\, such as: \n\nWomen*s rights for feminist politics of the future\nRepresentation of feminist positions in politics and civil society and artistic contexts\nAccess to resources for feminist opinion-forming and projects (finance\, knowledge\, community)\n\nThis 1st Call for Proposals focusses on “Rights” and aims to engage with the complexities and possibilities of African feminisms by exploring the many dimensions of women*s rights — legal\, social\, political\, economic\, and cultural — through diverse artistic and feminist approaches. \nWomen*s rights are multifaceted\, intersecting with issues such as social justice\, economic empowerment\, health\, education\, and the right to self-expression. We seek works that examine these rights in their broadest sense\, celebrating the strides that have been made\, critiquing ongoing struggles\, and envisioning new pathways for achieving gender equality across the continent. \nHow do African feminisms advocate for the rights of women* and girls within contexts shaped by colonial histories\, traditional customs\, modern challenges\, and global influences? DESCRIPTION:JUMATANO GROOVE – Henry Mkanyia (TZ) 🎤🎶 \nHenry Mkanyia\, born in 1950 in Masasi\, southern Tanzania\, began his professional music career in 1964 with the T.Y.L (Tanu Youth League) Band. In 1970\, he moved to Dar es Salaam and joined Tanzania Jazz Band\, before switching to the army band JKT Kimbunga Stereo in 1971. As a guitarist-soldier\, he toured Zambia\, Uganda during the Iddi Amin war\, Tunisia\, and Germany\, sharing the stage with legendary bands like Bembea Jazz. In 1981\, Mkanyia joined DDC Mlimani Park Orchestra\, where he recorded some of the band’s most popular albums and toured internationally. From 2008 to 2019\, he performed and recorded with Swahili Blues\, touring across Kenya\, Uganda\, and Ethiopia.
