DESCRIPTION:We are inviting participants to join the exciting animation training program TanzAnimation 2 – organized by our partner group: Tai Plus\, Film Lab Zanzibar\, The Animation Workshop Denmark\, Creative Viborg\,  and Zanzibar Adventure School. . This initiative is designed to strengthen and develop Tanzania’s animation industry by identifying skill gaps and providing targeted training to stimulate growth.\n\n We are looking for participants from across the animation ecosystem—scriptwriters\, animators (2D\, 3D\, stop-motion)\, illustrators\, producers\, and more. The program will bring together 20 participants from Tanzania (Mainland and Zanzibar) and 10 Danish animation peers\, creating an excellent opportunity for collaboration and skill-sharing. The training sessions will take place in Zanzibar from 19 January to 1 February 2025. Transport\, meals and accommodation costs will be covered during the training. \n\nSupported by the GLOBUS-Foundation under the Danish government\, TanzAnimation will run from October 2024 to July 2025. We will start by conducting a baseline survey\, thereafter design a needs-based training program\, and  then provide the training during the two-week residency workshop for the Tanzanian and the Danish participants. \nTraining by  Philip Piaget (Denmark-Mexico/TAW)  and  Gwamaka Mwabuka(Tanzania/ TAI.) Facilitation by Film Lab Zanzibar and Creative Viborg. \nThis is a unique chance to sharpen your skills\, connect with others in the industry\, and help shape the future of animation in Tanzania. CfCA aims to raise awareness about the importance of public funding for the arts\, highlighting its potential to enhance cultural development and sustainability throughout Africa. \nResidency Format: \nPhysical Residency \nDates: Dec 08 – Dec 20\, 2024 \nLocation: Addis Ababa\, Ethiopia \nRequirement: Participants must attend the residency in person during this period. \nThe program will cover flights\, accommodation\, meals\, and basic expenses during the residency. \nVirtual Residency \nParticipants will engage in collaborative projects\, workshops\, and mentorship sessions\, both before and after the physical residency. \nWho Can Apply? \nAge: Open to artists aged 18-35 years. \nNationality: Applicants must be from Ethiopia\, Tanzania\, Uganda\, Zambia\, or Zimbabwe. \nWe welcome applications from both cartoonists and digital artists \nLanguage: Proficiency in English is required to participate in both the virtual and physical components. \nSelection Process \nPre-Selection: A shortlist of candidates will be created based on submitted portfolios. \nMotivational Statement & Creative Work: Shortlisted candidates will be requested to submit a motivational statement and a sample of creative work aligned with the residency’s advocacy theme. \nFinal Selection: Artists will be selected based on portfolio strength\, project vision\, motivational statement\, and alignment with the advocacy goals. \nResidency Commitment \nActively participate in both virtual and physical components of the residency. \nCreate original works that align with the program’s advocacy goals. \nEngage with mentors\, peers\, and cultural organizations to foster collaboration. \nFinal Exhibition \nAt the end of the residency\, participants will showcase their work in a final exhibition to highlight the role of cartoon art in promoting cultural advocacy. DESCRIPTION:Open call for Tanzanian creatives (visual artists\, architects\, designers\, carpenter\, etc.) to join in the development and execution of participatory workshops for the design of playgrounds and sports fields in northern Pemba. \n\nBACKGROUND \n\n\nThe PURE Pemba urban resilience through ecosystem-based approaches project is part of the EU funded Green and Smart Cities Sasa Programme. A collaboration between Instituto Oikos (lead partner)\, Insituto Oikos East Africa and African Architecture Matters. \nThe project’s main objective is to make the main urban areas of North Pemba safe\, inclusive\, resilient and sustainable by promoting integrated urban development through a multi-stakeholder approach. Specifically\, the action aims at enhancing urban resilience in Wete and Micheweni urban areas by increasing access to basic services especially for women and children. \nAs part of the project\, African Architecture Matters is planning to upgrade a number of playgrounds and sport fields in Wete and Micheweni area using a participatory approach. We will organize a number of workshops together with children and youth discussing and designing the public spaces they would like to see.
